Day Time vs Night Time Skincare Routines

Day Time vs Night Time Skincare Routines

As an Esthetician, I have been asked a lot of questions over the last decade regarding skincare routines and skin health. One of the most frequently asked questions is “do I really need to use my products morning and night?” The simple answer is yes! Using the proper products in the morning provides different benefits compared to what you use at night.

During the day, our skin is exposed to UV rays, pollution, dirt, oil and many other factors which age our skin and clog our pores. In the morning, it is critical to prep your skin to shield it from these factors. Cleansing, moisturizing and wearing a mineral SPF is the simplest way to prep your skin for the day. In addition, I recommend adding an eye cream and antioxidant serum to your morning routine for optimal skin health.

Like preparing your skin for the day, it is just as important to provide your skin with essential nutrients, at night, before going to sleep. Night time is when our skin regenerates, so you want to use products that aid in this process. I always recommend cleansing your skin twice in the evening. The first time is to remove makeup, dirt, oil and other pollutants that attach to your skin during the day. The second cleanse is to prep the surface for the serums and moisturizers. Another tip is to use your exfoliating scrub at night which will remove a light layer of dead skin cells allowing serums and moisturizers to penetrate more efficiently.

So, remember to always protect your skin for the day and take the proper steps to help your skin rejuvenate and repair at night.
